The Price Of A Soul

What is one human being worth to another?
Knife in the back from the one you called brother
Actions outside of ourselves cause an ache
You lie alone in bed and call it all your mistake

My bad
I walked right past red flags
I gave you a chance and it made me feel sad
I plaster a smile
Do my best to pretend
It feels like this is the ache that never ends

Stiff joints
Aching fingers
Types of pain that never linger
I never get a choice in ingredients of tinctures
Accused of changing faces
Like it’s voluntary choice
Being misunderstood is getting real damn annoying

Let it be
You are all free to flee
That isn’t me
That isn’t what I mean
I cannot paint my face in fake philosophies
My compassion starves in the face of all that greed

My feet are on the earth
In damp fresh grass
I cannot build a bridge when it crumbles from your half
This seems like common sense
But expressing causes wrath
I’m sorry that I ever showed the tenderness you lack
