Take a Step

I release the weight of alien expectations
Take a step forward unaware of presentation
Wondering if the ground and I will meet before the ocean
Lonely guarantees in the certainty of motion

Truth falls easily from chapped lips
Droplets of Schrödinger’s poison
A reinforced dam with a sturdy gate
Unlocked by kindness and devotion

I will never know the role you’ve cast me in your life
I’ve had my fair share of both apology and strife
A day will come you deign fit enough to tell me
I can only audition in hope I am given fair assembly

Past wounds form a silver chain
Invisible string catches brand new mistakes
Although the act of trying will certainly bring pain
Better to hurt outside than be stuck in an empty safe
